May Day Acres is a family ranch in Aberdeen, South Dakota, run by Sarah and Adam Burgard with the help of our three boys. We raise beautiful Gypsy Vanner horses as well as miniature donkeys, angora rabbits and peacocks and a variety of other animals. We purchased the 28 acres on Foote Creek in 2007 and began reclaiming the old horse property. Sarah has a Masters Degree in Land Rehabilitation and a Bachelors of Science in Biology, she grew up raising animals and riding horses in the mountains of Colorado. Adam was born in Aberdeen but traveled the country with his family before coming back. As a young man Adam learned wood working and carpentry from his grandfather and now owns Burgard Construction a general contracting company that does remodeling and new construction and specializes in detail custom woodwork. In his off time Adam also loves to go “pickin'” and drag home old treasures to be cleaned up or restored. Don’t be afraid to ask about a trade….. a horse for an muscle car to be restored and your in with Adam!!
In addition to our horse program, we offer introductory horse lessons, riding and general safety and work with SPURS Therapeutic Riding Center. We also love to have groups visit to meet the horses take photographs, tour the farm and the garden and interact with the animals. When available you are welcome to pick vegetables and farm fresh eggs. We have had several photo sessions staged here for weddings, senior pictures and graduations, with our carriages, sleigh, animals and wonderful scenery. Please contact us if you would like to learn more. All of our tours are currently free of charge, although any donations to help offset the costs of keeping animals and the garden.
